East Coast Surfing at its Finest. Thanks to Hurricane Bill
Monday, August 24, 2009 at 11:24AM This weekend marked a unforgettable moment for the east coast surfers. Hurricane Bill came through with so much power and off shore just enough to produce waves that makes living on the East Coast and being a surfer worthwhile.
From Florida up to Maine people were hitting the white frothy waters to catch some of the biggest swells some of us have seen in a long time or may see ever again. Andy Irons was down in NJ tearing it up while the Florida coast line was completely clogged with people attempting to park and make their ways out.
Of course this brings out the best surfers from all around to hit the east coast but it also brings out the newbie wannabe. A friend was sliced across the arm by a fin receiving 5 stitches by someone out in waves that were above their ability. So next time, that's if there is a next time, and you are thinking of going out and surfing the epic waves just make sure you can handle it and be safe.
This was one of those lucky weekends for many of the deprived East Coast surfers and maybe we will get lucky and have another storm bring us such sweet waves. Today and Tomorrow there should be some leftover waves through the North East so if you can take another day off head out and take advantage of some of the little extras that others may have to pass up on.
