Riding With Doug Henry

Over this past weekend I had the chance to go up to the Henry Farm and go riding with Doug on his new hand controlled motocross bike.  The bike has thumb shifters, rekluse clutch, and rear brake where the clutch lever once was.  The bike itself is enclosed by a very custom roll cage to help protect Doug.  For anyone that is not familiar with who Doug Henry is he is a past Motocross Champion and due to an injury is paralyzed from the waist down.

To say only after a few weeks of riding that Doug is fast would be an understatement.  He is flying on this thing and once he has it fully dialed in the way he wants it, it is going to get to be harder and harder for someone to keep up with him that isn't an A class rider.

Here are some pictures from the day and there will be more in the near future of riding with Doug that will be added.

Wow Doug is awseome! He's better than Robocop! I remember seeing the accident when he jumped over McGrath. I didn't see the supermoto accident but he's even inspirational when he breaks his bones. He gives thumbs up on the stretcher! He's a class act.

Wow Doug is one unstopable guy. I seen both his crashes at Budds and after each one I said he's done racing. Was I wrong. I didn't know of the supermoto accident till now, sorry to hear about that. His determination to ride is unreal and he should be in the AMA Hall Of Fame!!!

Courage is the rarest and most valuable commodity in the entire universe. It is our extreme good fortune to have an enormous amount of it right here in one of our finest people and best sport. You are an inspiration to far more than just this 58 year-old dirtbike rider and I sincerely thank you for that.

Doug is pure insperation !
The feeling in his heart must be so nice for him. I would be completely emotional if I were in his shoes.

Boys and girls, men and women...motorcycles are in our blood...and Doug has made it a fact with his courage!

I hope to meet Doug Henry someday.

You should see Doug on his snowmobile, he has a velcro seatbelt holding him down to the sled. Incredibly he'll jump doubles and triples just like before. The thing about him is he's always in great spirits and never gives up. Doug makes himself walk with leg braces during the day does his work in the farm and even ski's with the kids. I've never meet anyone like him, TV should do a story about him because the second half of his life is even more amazing than his racing days!
