Breaking the Sound Barrier - Red Bull Stratos

As if crossing the English Channel wasn't a big enough of an accomplishment for Felix Baumgartner (most adrenaline junkies look for the next big thing), he will now be attempting to be the first human to break the sound barrier at Mach 1 speeds in a free fall.

Red Bull Stratos and Felix are attempting to break the records set back in 1960 by United States Air Force Colonel Joseph Kittinger. Joe was the man that made human space exploration possible. He went up to the limits up space to see if a human could survive a bailout at such heights and make it back to earth safely if needed. With three attempts from 1959-60 with the last being the record setting fall.

Right now the current record held by Joe is a height of 102,800 feet and a speed of 614 MPH in free fall. Felix is attempting to go to a height of 120,00 feet and fall at a speed of Mach 1(about 690 mph). Project Two50 - Bringing the 2-Stroke Back to the Nationals

This year the Project Two50 team and rider Mike Leavitt are taking the 250 two-stroke back to the AMA Nationals. It use to be that the four-strokers were the outcasts of the motocross scene, but come the late 90's and our good friend Doug Henry changed all that. Ever since Doug took the four-stroke to a Supercross win and then to a AMA National Championship it has been four-stroke fever since.

But now the two-stroke fans will have a racer out in the nationals bringing the sound and smell that was the best part of racing back to the track. Its been a rare rider here and there at the pro events over the past few years that have shown up to race a two-stroke but Mike and his team at Project Two50 will be at a bunch of select outdoor nationals to give the two-stroke fans a guy to cheer for. We were lucky enough to see Mike up at Mototown USA practicing and he was flying. It looks like he will be out there and charging on his 250 racing against the much heavier 450's this outdoor season.

The weight and expense of the new 450's was part of his reason for going back to the two-stroke. Instead of dumping big bucks into a four-stroke to make it lighter and faster to compete with the other guys he wanted to go back to the lighter and more manageable two-stroke. Mike is heading out there to show that the two-strokes aren't dead yet and for the right rider can come out there with a competitive bike to race against the 450 beasts.

Jodie Nelson's 39.8 Mile "Paddle With Purpose"

On Sunday, March 28, 2010, surfer Jodie Nelson will attempt to become the first woman to paddle the grueling 39.8 miles from Avalon on the island of Catalina to Dana Point, California. This mission of hers is to raise awareness and $50,000 for breast cancer research. Jodie has teamed up with Emergen-C Pink, The Keep A Breast Foundation and Boarding For Breast Cancer to help accomplish this goal.

This stretch of water has only been accomplished on a stand up paddle board by a handful of men and one of them being Laird Hamilton. (if you do not know who he is I suggest google him) This is more than just an attempt by Jodie to become the first women or to just accomplish a new goal. Both her mother and aunt are survivors of breast cancer and currently one of her friends is battling this disease. Her goal is to help people in the future with a better understanding and more research done on breast cancer.

An Explanation (an apology)

Saturday March 13th Stimilon will host its first ever Winter Warmup Event. This is a fun race (much like the famed Stimilon Motocross Challenge over the summer) to jump start everyone for the 2010 racing season. It will be held at Mototown USA. This is the race that doesn’t matter, because there are no points, no consequences, nothing – it’s just to dust off your winter cobwebs and have fun banging bars with your buddies!

Many will use our race to prepare for the NEMX Season Opener at Southwick on 3/27 or the NESC Season Opener (again) at Southwick on 4/3. Yet still others will come to race with us because they know that Stimilon Events are just a blast. Either way, welcome.

Shaun White and Scotty Lago Medal for US Olympic Snowboard Team

credit Dallas Morning NewsThe US Mens Olympic Snowboard team brings home Gold and Bronze Medals in Vancouver. Shaun White walks away with his second gold and Scotty Lago takes home the bronze.

Shaun White laid down his first run of a 46.8, which was enough to bring home gold alone but went out and put together a run of 48.4 on his second. His second run is the highest for the Olympic Snowboard competition in history. In his "victory" run Shaun displayed his amazing ability by throwing down an insane Double McTwist 1260. Shaun's two runs were the two highest in the competition.

Scotty Lago came out with a 42.8 which just bumped him into medal position knocking out Switzerland's Iouri Podladtchikov who had a 42.4 into 4th place. Rounding out the top 5 was the US Team member Louie Vito, also know as Tiny Dancer from his Dancing With the Stars days.

Yesterday was a good day for Team USA at the Olympics taking home a total of 6 medals in one day!! Never before has the US done that in the Winter Olympics and no other country has ever won more than 6 in a day. So Thanks to Shaun, Scotty, and the rest of Team USA for putting us in the history books yesterday.

Big Pacific Swell Energizes Maverick Surf Competition

2009 Opening Ceremony : photo Mavericks Surf Contest®It's green lights all the way for Maverick's Surf Competition in Half Moon Bay. If you dare brave the traffic and head down the normally 30 minute drive from San Fran check it out. For all of you like myself who don't live remotely close to Maverick's check it out on the website streaming live.

Some predicitons for wave heights are as high as 40 feet!!! All glory to those guys I got one word for you...CRAZY. I think they make medication for that... All kidding aside the elements are lining up to be pretty damn epic, which would be great when thinking back to the EDDIE and how well that contest went down.
